Purregebyr 2026
The purregebyr – the statutory reminder fee – is 38 kroner in 2026. The amount is not something you set yourself: it is one twentieth of the inkassosats, the base debt-collection rate that the Norwegian Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) raised from 700 to 750 kroner on 1 January 2026. The fee is also the smallest of the amounts you can actually claim, and the rules for when you are allowed to add it are stricter than most people think. Here is the whole picture, without the legalese.
What the purregebyr is in 2026
38 kroner per purring (reminder) or inkassovarsel (the formal notice that the claim may go to debt collection). The Debt Collection Regulations § 1-2 say you may charge “an amount equal to one twentieth of the inkassosats”, and the inkassosats is 750 kroner in 2026. One twentieth is 37.50 kroner, which is rounded to 38. If you instead send a betalingsoppfordring – a formal demand for payment you issue yourself – the rate is three twentieths, or 113 kroner. The rates change whenever the inkassosats changes, normally at the turn of the year, so a fee copied from an old template is almost certainly wrong.
You have to wait 14 days after the due date
This is the rule most people get wrong. The purring or inkassovarsel must be sent “no earlier than 14 days after the claim falls due” for you to be allowed to charge the fee. If you send the reminder the day after the due date, the reminder itself is perfectly legal – but the fee is not. The reminder must also give at least 14 days to pay. So you can send a reminder straight away; you just cannot charge for it.
How many times you can charge the fee
Under the Debt Collection Regulations § 1-3 you can charge for two reminders and one betalingsoppfordring after them, or for one purring, one inkassovarsel and one betalingsoppfordring. The second fee requires that the customer actually let a payment deadline of at least 14 days, set in the first reminder, pass. In other words, you cannot send three reminders in a week and add 38 kroner each time.
The fee is not where the money is
38 kroner does not cover the time you spend following up. What actually matters for a one-person business are the other two items: forsinkelsesrente (late-payment interest) from the due date, which is 12.25% per year from 1 July 2026, and – if the customer is a business – standardkompensasjon, a flat statutory compensation for collection costs of 430 kroner. The latter is more than ten times the purregebyr, requires no documentation of your actual costs, and is almost never claimed.
What a purring with the correct fee looks like
It should contain the invoice number, the original due date, the amount, the fee itemised separately, a new payment deadline of at least 14 days, and your account number or KID. Do not mention inkasso (debt collection) in an ordinary purring – that belongs in the inkassovarsel, and an empty threat weakens you if the case does go further. The tool on the front page fills all of this in, and leaves the fee out automatically if it is too early to claim it.

Create a reminder with the correct feeFAQ
Can I charge more than 38 kroner as a purregebyr?
No. The amount is set by regulation and is an upper limit. A higher “administration fee” you agree with the customer in advance normally does not hold up against consumers, and against businesses it is the standardkompensasjon of 430 kroner that gives you the most anyway.
Do I have to send a purring before an inkassovarsel?
No. A purring is optional. The law only requires an inkassovarsel before the claim can be sent to a debt collection agency. If the customer is already well past the due date, you can go straight to the inkassovarsel and save yourself a round.
What if I forgot to charge the fee on the first purring?
Then you can charge it on the next one. The fee follows the notice, not the invoice, as long as you stay within the number allowed in § 1-3 and the deadlines are met.
Do the same rates apply to private individuals?
The purregebyr of 38 kroner and the forsinkelsesrente apply to private individuals and businesses alike. The standardkompensasjon of 430 kroner applies only when the debtor is a company or a public body.
